A WORD FROM OUR NEW PRESIDENT
Having recently been elected President of Lutheran Campus Ministry of Minnesota, it is both my responsibility and my privilege to oversee efforts to fund the life-changing, sometimes even life-saving ministries of the ten Lutheran campus ministry sites across the state.
That’s no small challenge! Due to shrinking financial resources, the funds we receive from the six Minnesota synods of the ELCA—which have historically provided the lion’s share of our operating costs—have dropped precipitously in recent years. Synodical support for campus ministry in 2009 was just one-third of what it had been ten years earlier. That’s the bad news. The good news is …

In 2009, four of the six Minnesota synods of the ELCA voted to name Lutheran Campus Ministry of Minnesota as a “Mission Fund,” opening the door for us to approach local congregations and members of congregations, asking for financial contributions. Local campus pastors, council members and students are doing just that—spreading the campus ministry story and inviting you to partner in our ministry.
These are challenging times. In spite of steady increases in the cost of doing student ministry, budget allocations from the ELCA national church body have been flat in recent years. That’s the bad news. The good news is …

For many years, Lutheran Campus Ministry of Minnesota has received strong financial backing from the Women of the ELCA. Additionally, several Minnesota congregations have continued their generous annual contributions to LCMM. I am happy to report that this past year regular monthly gifts from individual donors like you and me are on the increase as well. Developing Story
Thanks in part to a grant from Thrivent, LCMM has hired Tom VandenBosch, Certified Fund Raising Executive, to guide LCMM in an ambitious Development Plan.
Counseling the LCMM Board of Directors,advising local campus ministries across the state and meeting with prospective donors are all part of the work Tom has taken on to gather financial support for this vital ministry.
